The Secret Life Season 1 Episode 3

I Feel Sick

Original Air Date: 7/15/2008
Director: Ron Underwood
Writers: Brenda Hampton and Caroline Kepnes

Did anyone else notice the sign at the gas station in the opening scene that says 'Free tampons with fill up'?  What?! Haha!  Amy's sister, Ashley, gets Amy some.
Ben is busy making out with a large stuffed bear.  Alice offers to help him plan his first kiss with Amy.  Weird.  What kind of guy needs help to do that?  And Alice's help?  I don't know.  Looks dubious.
Jack is awful!  When talking to Grace, he uses the fact that Grace has made him wait so long to have sex as an excuse for why he kissed Adrian.  Ridiculous!  For a self-proclaimed Christian, it seems like he could use a few repeated reads of the Bible.

Madison and Lauren hang out with Lauren's brother, Jason.  He knows about Amy's pregnancy and gives them both a stern lecture about not having sex.

Grace, at dinner with her family, pitches a big fit about Jack.  Her parents don't want her to see him anymore since she told them about how Jack kissed Adrian and embarrassed her in front of the whole school.  I think she should listen to her parents.

Ricky "visits" Adrian and skips out on his appointment with Dr. Fields.  The doctor calls him and it's revealed that he's actually missed a couple of appointments.  Dr. Fields tells him he will call his mother if he continues missing appointments.  Meanwhile, Amy's mother notices Amy's feet are swollen.  Amy is so lucky!  Her mom starts talking about going out shopping for 'dating clothes' and, if it were me, I would be so excited!  Amy just looks...like she could go either way.

Alice coaches Ben on what to do during his date with Amy later that night.  They discuss the most romantic ways for Ben to kiss Amy for the first time.  Alice is starting to grow on me.  At first she seemed like a frigid statistics textbook, but in this episode she opens up a bit more.  After Alice leaves, Ben's dad, Leo, comes in and gives Ben a pep talk as well.  One weird thing is that Ben keeps talking about how he's in love with Amy.  They really haven't been dating long enough for that, in my opinion, but to each his own. eh :/

Ricky calls Grace to talk.  He calls Adrian his friend and says he has a lot of friends.  Ew!  I have never and will never date a guy who professes to have a lot of friends that are girls!  One or two is fine- whatever- but if a guy feels the need to tell you upfront that he has a lot of friends that are girls, you should know he's either gay or a player.  There's a teeny chance the guy just happens to have a lot of friends that are girls, but it really isn't likely.

Adrian fights with Ricky when he tells her about his phone call with Grace.  He plays it as if he's 'helping' out Grace and Jack so that they can hang out when Grace tells her parents she's out with Ricky.  Jack is SO naive!  He of all people, should realize Ricky's game here.  He clearly is going to play against Jack to get Grace,  Ugh!  The sad part is that a TON of guys are actually like this!  Not all, thank God, though!
Amy's doctor continues to try to get hold of her to talk about her options.  Amy, however, is still trying to pretend nothing happened, despite her increased weight.

Ashley goes to Amy's bedroom to tell her that they are going out to eat.  Amy is a true meanie here and is quite terse with Ashley.  Grace brings Ricky over to meet her parents.  Then, they go to the fair.  It's so FUNNY though, because the minute they walk out the door, Grace's dad totally calls it.  He says they are just going out so Grace can meet up with Jack and WOW he's right!

While Grace is at the fair with Jack, Ricky is busy getting it on with Adrian.  Once finished, he rushes out insisting that it's time to pick up Grace.  Adrian accepts it, but is clearly upset nonetheless.

Amy goes home after the festival and talks with Ashley.  It seems their parents have been fighting a lot.  Uhoh!  Ashley also directly asks Amy if she is pregnant.  How is it that ASHLEY is the one who notices these things?  Amy admits to Ashley that she IS pregnant but asks her not to tell anyone.  She claims that she will tell them when she HAS to.  Oh gosh!!! Ashley seems so tough, but she's just as sensitive as anyone.  I think I like her wily ways.

I like that Grace's dad can be a true Christian but not actually hurt anyone.  And he has a sick sense of intuition!  Love it!

Ben goes to Amy's house to return a jacket she left with him.  He brings her the jacket, a bottle of ginger ale (to help her 'upset' stomach).
Is it just me, or do these episodes end rather abruptly?

Quotes

Anne Juergens: "Be mysterious.  Less is more."

Madison: "Well, maybe we can get you like a big safety pin.  You know like the giant pins they put in diapers."

Alice: "It's a big moment to you."
